Al right, gang, this is a pop quiz. One question, multiple choice, winner take all. Ready?
a) An ancient percussion instrument of the Mayans
b) Alex Karras’ character in Blazing Saddles
c) The newest hybrid car from Toyota
d) A giant clam found only off the coast of Sicily
e) The Marx Brother nobody remembers
If you picked any of these, I wouldn’t let too many folks know about it. Now, if you said Vongo is
one of a few new companies that may change the way you watch or rent movies in the future, give yourself a soon-to-be taxed Hollywood swag bag, because the future is now!
VONGO (www.vongo.com) let’s you download unlimited movies to your computer. (for a monthly fee, ‘natch) The file is small, and if you have a hi-speed connection, you can be watching a film in minutes. There is access to over 1000 titles and growing. You can the search for a movie by genre, titles, actor and more.
Much like Amazon and their personal recommendations, Vongo will recommend movies, then adjust its suggestions according to your viewing habits. The more you download and use the service, the more it gets to “know you” and your preferences in movies. Once downloaded you can watch as often as you like, as long as Vongo continues to own the movies rights. (don’t know what the criteria is, or the length of rights acquisition)
They also offer a free, live feed of the STARZ channel. (their parent company) Of course, for those who want the newest releases nearly straight out of the movie theatres, there’s a PPV option (pay-per-view)as well. You even can download movies from your account to up to three different computers or you can connect computer to your home TV and watch it there. Not enough choices, my Burger King deciples? Have it your way and transfer and watch movies on your hand held device. Just save the other hand for popcorn! (though this last option doesn’t work for those of us older kids who keep a pair of reading “cheaters” in every room of the house and believe “font” is just another four-letter word)
Just think of the possibilities. Can’t get enough of me between columns in this newsletter? Download Men in Black II or Heartbreakers, and you can have me in the palm of your hand at the push of a bottom, whenever you desire. (calm down, ladies!) Hey, I think I’m going to like this Vongo thang! So where do you want to take me next?
