Soupy & Captain Lou

Hi...

Tough week for humor on the planet.  Soupy Sales and Captain Lou Albano left us.  Both may have been acquired tastes (especially Capt. Lou).  Many of you probably know him from his appearance in the Cindi Lauper video.  Here's a wiki page about the Captain (who for a while managed one of the world's best rock n' roll bands, NRBQ).  Peter just mentioned Capt. Lou in his blog post as well (A View from the Unabridged...check it out below).

As for Soupy, well, if you're not old enough to remember his show, here's a brief clip.  Silly you say??? Of course it was.

Tell me that's not funny.  We'll miss you both.

Maher Than Just a Host

If you did not see REAL TIME with Bill Maher last night, you missed why he's the smartest, sharpest and most honest entertainer on television. (and quick kudos to old friend and modern-day Algonquin roundtabler Scott Carter, his terrific producer for years).

Bill doesn't speak the truth. He speaks his truth. (and most of the time, mine, I gotta say) He doesn't back down from making an intelligent stand on the issues. He's not afraid of controversy. He doesn't"t stand for bu**sh*t. (that's BULLSHIT in case you're not offended by honest language). Here's a link describing what happened on the show last night:

If you like smart political conversation and comedy, with a decided bent to the left, coast and otherwise, you can't miss REAL TIME with Bill Maher. Got HBO? Got TIVO? No excuses. Better stay awake, kiddies, they want us to vote again.....
